Tipologie di Competenze
  • Studio dei meccanismi che sottendono ai mutamenti nell'assetto cardiocircolatorio alla nascita mediante l'utilizzo di preparati in vitro ed in vivo. Il laboratorio ha specifica esperienza in tecniche di miniaturizzazione per l'uso di animali di piccole dimensioni (feto/neonato di topo) ovvero nell'uso di animali di grandi dimensioni (feto/neonato di pecora). L'approccio è eminentemente multidisciplinare e comprende le discipline biologiche di base nonché la bioingegneria.
  • Messa a punto di modelli sperimentali per lo studio, acuto e cronico, del circolo polmonare con particolare riferimento alla patogenesi dell'ipertensione polmonare.
  • Messa a punto di modelli sperimentali basati sull'uso di animali geneticamente modificati.
Esperienze Pregresse
  • Linea di ricerca sulla fisiologia/medicina perinatale, privilegiando meccanismi di regolazione locale e oxygen sensing nell'apparato cardiovascolare;
  • studio di meccanismi neurormonali nel sistema nervoso centrale con particolare riferimento alle prostaglandine e sostanze affini;
  • studio del meccanismo centrale della febbre.
Applicabilità della Ricerca Sviluppata Linee di ricerca a carattere eminentemente applicativo come si evince dal rapporto costruttivo con l'industria farmaceutica e il comparto clinico. Esempi significativi sono qui elencati.
  • Upjohn. Sviluppo di Prostin VR come vasodilatatore per uso pediatrico e nell'adulto. L'introduzione di questo preparato ha avuto un forte impatto nella cardiologia pediatrica.
  • Parke Davis. Analisi antagonisti dell'endotelina-1 per uso nell'ipertensione polmonare.
  • Merck. Studio del meccanismo centrale della febbre con il fine di sviluppare nuovi farmaci ad azione antipiretica.
  • Studio di fattibilità per la chirurgia fetale mirata alla correzione di malformazioni cardiache. Con la collaborazione del Settore di Bioingegneria si procede anche alla messa a punto di una appropriata strumentazione.
